To become an IB World School

Steps to become an IB World School

In order for schools and educational institutions to introduce The International Baccalaureate Organization (known as the IB) and provide IB education as an officially IB World School, they must complete the authorization process set out by the International Baccalaureate Organization (the IB). It usually takes two to three years until schools and educational institutions are authorized by the IB, depending on the school and IB Programme to be introduced.

There are three stages in the authorization process.

1)Becoming an Interested School: It corresponds to the consideration phase in the flow below. When a school contacts the International Baccalaureate Organization (the IB) (see below) for a query about the process of becoming IB school, you will be called an interested school and will receive basic information sharing and support free of charge.

2)Becoming a Candidate School: Once a school has been approved as a candidate school through a series of procedures by the IB, a consultant with training designated by the IB will be assigned to your school. You will also be given access to IB teacher resources and, for the PYP and MYP Programmes, you will be able to begin trial implementation. Once a school is approved as a candidate school, it can publicly identify itself as a candidate school. Please note that there is a fee to apply for candidacy.

3)Becoming an Authorized School: To apply for authorization, a school will proceed with re-organizing the various rules and regulations of the school, re-designing the curriculum, and training their staff at the stage of a candidate school. When the school determines that ready to apply, it will undergo a consultation by the IB and an evaluation through a visit for authorization. The school must fulfill all conditions required of an IB school before being authorized.
